U.S. Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) is introducing legislation declaring June as “Family Month” in a bid to reclaim the first month of the summer from LGBT “pride” activists, according to a report from the Daily Wire.
The legislation has drawn a number of co-sponsors, including U.S. Reps. Harriet Hageman (R-WY), Barry Moore (R-AL), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Michael Cloud (R-TX) and others. It has also received endorsements from a number of parental rights groups, including Moms for America, the American Family Project, the Family Research Council, the Eagle Forum, and others.
“The American family is under relentless attack from a radical leftist agenda that seeks to erase truth, redefine marriage, and confuse our children,” Miller told The Daily Wire.
“By recognizing June as Family Month, we reject the lie of ‘Pride’ and instead honor God’s timeless and perfect design. If we truly want to restore our nation, we must stand united to protect and uphold the foundation upon which it was built — the family.”
The resolution comes as the Trump Administration has taken steps to eliminate celebrations of identity months, including Pride Month, within the federal government. On Monday, the Department of Education declared June “Title IX Month” in recognition of the 53rd anniversary of the legislation’s passing and a direct rebuke to the previous administration’s “Pride Month” policies.
Miller’s resolution rejects ideological gender principles pushed by activists over the last decade, the Daily Wire reported. It describes the traditional nuclear family as “the foundation of a healthy society” and states that mothers and fathers “play a crucial and irreplaceable role in the upbringing of their children.”
It also states that the “best environment for children to thrive is a home with a married mother and father” before addressing the troubling divorce rate in the United States and record numbers of young Americans delaying, or opting out of family creation entirely.
“The birth rate in the United States has fallen below the replacement level needed to replenish the population and sustain the economy,” the resolution states.
“The month of June was first declared as Pride Month by President Bill Clinton in 1999 and has been done so by Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, rejecting the importance of marriage and family,” the resolution reads, noting that since then, “Americans are inundated with perverse Pride Month displays and events throughout the month of June that denigrate the nuclear family.”
Miller concluded by arguing that civilization depends on the “continuation of traditional marriage and family.”
The resolution calls on the House of Representatives to recognize the importance of the traditional nuclear family, the benefits of marriage to men, women, children, and society, and to no longer recognize June as Pride Month.
