Former President Joe Biden’s administration faced intense scrutiny last week following the simultaneous release of devastating health news and explosive allegations about his presidency’s inner workings.
Biden received a diagnosis of advanced prostate cancer that had metastasized to his bones, a condition that medical experts typically consider terminal.
The diagnosis drew widespread sympathy, including supportive comments from President Donald Trump.
The health revelation coincided with the publication of “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again,” a book that presents damaging allegations about Biden’s capacity to serve as president.
The book’s co-authors, Axios reporter Alex Thompson and CNN’s Jake Tapper, made startling claims about who actually controlled the Biden administration during his presidency.
Thompson revealed that a small group of individuals, referred to within the administration as “the Politburo,” effectively ran the White House operations.
The term “Politburo” traditionally describes the policy-making class of communist states.
“In terms of who was running the White House, it’s a small group of people that have been around,” Thompson told PBS, per the New York Post.
“Some people within the administration called them the Politburo. That’s the term we used in the book.”
This inner circle reportedly included longtime Washington figures such as former White House chief of staff Ron Klain, along with Biden family members including former first lady Jill Biden and former first son Hunter Biden.
The authors emphasized that none of these individuals received electoral votes from American citizens, raising questions about democratic representation and constitutional governance.
Tapper clarified that Biden maintained some awareness of his administration’s operations, though his involvement appeared limited.
“And Joe Biden himself also is part of this. Joe Biden is not like — it’s not ‘Weekend at Bernie’s,’ right?” Tapper stated.
“He has some purchase here. He has some agency. And he’s aware of some of what’s going on.”
The CNN anchor noted that Biden possessed knowledge of his handlers’ restrictive practices.
“He’s aware of the fact that they are keeping the cabinet away from him, they are keeping some White House staffers away from him,” Tapper revealed, per the Western Journal.
Thompson now describes “undemocratic things” that were done to conceal the former president’s deteriorating mental state and secure another term in office.
He disclosed these revelations during a Sunday interview with Fox News host Shannon Bream.
Thompson explained that Biden’s team of unelected staffers believed they were justified in “picking up the slack” for the struggling commander in chief.
Their motivation stemmed from viewing President Trump as an “existential threat” to democracy.
The arrangement would have placed significant governing power in the hands of individuals who never faced voter approval or Senate confirmation.
These White House aides operated without the traditional oversight mechanisms designed to ensure democratic accountability.
The Post highlighted that Bream questioned Thompson about who would have actually controlled the White House during a hypothetical second Biden term.
The author referenced a longtime Biden aide quoted in his book who essentially acknowledged Biden should not have sought reelection.
The book contains a particularly striking passage where an anonymous aide outlined a strategy for Biden’s potential second term.
The aide stated Biden “just had to win, and then he could disappear for four years.”
Biden would only need to provide “proof of life every once in a while” while his aides managed the daily operations of the government, according to this plan.
The author explained the rationale behind such thinking to Bream.
He noted that if people genuinely believe Trump represents an existential threat to democracy, they can justify almost any action, including those that might themselves be considered undemocratic.
