Former President Bill Clinton was at odds with ongoing discussions surrounding the health of former President Joe Biden.
In an interview with CBS News on Sunday, Clinton claimed that he saw Biden “in good shape” and “never” saw instances of his mental decline.
CNN anchor Jake Tapper and journalist Alex Thompson recently released a book titled “Original Sin,” which details the Biden administration’s cover-up of the former president’s declining cognitive functions during his time in the White House.
CBS Sunday Morning anchor Tracy Smith asked Clinton if he ever witnessed felt that Biden was “unfit” to run for the presidency.
“Did you ever have a moment with him where you thought maybe he was unfit to run for president?” Smith asked the former president.
In response, Clinton said, “No.”
“I thought he was a good president,” he added.
“The only concern I thought he had to deal with was, could anybody do that job until they were 86? And we’d had several long talks. I had never seen him and walked away thinking he can’t do this anymore. He was always on top of his brief,” the former president went on.
Smith pressed Clinton, asking, “You never saw any cognitive decline?”
Clinton clarified that he has not read Tapper’s book, but that he had seen Biden recently and felt that he was mentally healthy.
“I didn’t know anything about any of this. And I haven’t read the book. I saw President Biden not very long ago, and I thought he was in good shape. But the book didn’t register with me because I never saw him that way,” the ex-president said.
Smith then asked Clinton why he had not read the book, to which the former president said he didn’t feel a need to since Biden was not president anymore.
Clinton claimed that the book is being used to blame Biden for Trump’s presidential victory.
“I think he did a good job,” Clinton said, referring to Biden.
“And I think we are facing challenges today without precedent in our history. And some people are trying to use this as a way to blame him for the fact that Trump was reelected,” he went on.As Fox News noted, despite Clinton’s praise of Biden’s performance as president, he and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, were among the first prominent Democratic figures to endorse then-Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee hours after Biden dropped out of the race.
Biden was recently diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer.
The former president was asked to address ongoing concerns about his mental and physical abilities, as Resist the Mainstream previously reported.
In remarks that went viral, Biden presumably slammed Tapper and Thompson over their book highlighting his mental difficulties.
“You can see that I’m mentally incompetent and I can’t walk, and I can beat the hell out of both of them,” Biden said.
