Former First Lady Michelle Obama raised eyebrows during a recent podcast episode after joking about being “a single girl,” prompting new speculation about her marriage to former President Barack Obama.
The moment occurred on an episode of In My Opinion (IMO), where Michelle was joined by her brother Craig Robinson and Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky.
During the conversation, Michelle said, “If I’m a single girl out there and I find out that Brian Chesky is single and I could like stay in his house—”
Her brother quickly interrupted, saying, “Here she goes, right to the relationship!” and told Chesky, “You don’t have to feel pressure.”
Chesky replied that the Obamas had tried to set him up in the past, prompting Michelle to add that she was “very invested in Brian’s love life.”
The lighthearted moment comes amid persistent rumors about the state of the Obamas’ marriage, according to the Conservative Brief.
Michelle’s past absences from major public events have fueled speculation, including her non-attendance at President Donald Trump’s inauguration and former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.
Barack Obama recently acknowledged a “deep deficit” in his relationship with Michelle, saying he was trying to plan enjoyable time together.
Michelle has spoken publicly about frustrations in their marriage, including Barack’s habit of being late and avoiding serious conversations.
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson weighed in on the issue in a discussion with Megyn Kelly, saying Michelle “really dislikes her husband.”
Carlson claimed her tone toward Barack has been “hostile” and called it “unbelievable,” while clarifying he wasn’t trying to be mean.
Kelly agreed, saying Michelle often focuses on her husband’s flaws instead of strengths.
Kelly added that in her own marriage, she tends to highlight positive qualities, unlike Michelle’s frequent criticism of Barack.
Michelle responded to some of the divorce rumors on another podcast hosted by Steven Bartlett, saying the speculation was baseless.
When asked about her absence from Trump’s inauguration, Bartlett said many took it as a sign of marital trouble and predicted a split.
Michelle laughed off the claims and said, “If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it.”
She then pointed to her brother and said, “He would know it,” and joked that Robinson would be doing a podcast with Barack instead.
Michelle reaffirmed her commitment by calling Barack her “person” and said neither of them would quit on their marriage.
She also warned young people not to idolize her relationship, saying many give up too soon because of unrealistic expectations.
