NEW: Transgender Democrat Rep. Caught In Major Lie

The Trump team is calling out transgender U.S. House Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) after the member of Congress falsely asserted that the recently passed “big, beautiful” bill would “impose a tax on working people.”

Outside the Capitol on Thursday, McBride railed against House Republicans after narrow passage of President Donald Trump’s signature domestic legislation, which includes the largest tax cut in American history. That’s false, McBride claimed over boos from liberal spectators.

“This is a budget, this is a budget that imposes a tax on working people, a tax on patients, creating new out-of-pocket expenses, breaking the foundational promise of this president’s campaign to lower costs for working people,” stated McBride.

The rapid response account for Trump’s campaign labeled McBride’s statement “a total lie.”

“The One Big Beautiful Bill CUTS taxes for working people and ELIMINATES taxes on tips and overtime,” the Rapid Response 47 account wrote on X. “In fact, Americans earning between $30k-$80k would see a 15% reduction in taxes.”

McBride’s claims were echoed by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), who shortly after the vote began referring to Trump’s “big, beautiful” bill as the “GOP Tax Scam.”

“House Republicans promised to lower costs. Instead, Donald Trump’s One Big Ugly Bill will mean millions of families will pay higher premiums, copays and deductibles. Hospitals will close, nursing homes will shut down and communities will suffer. It will take food out of the mouths of children, seniors and veterans at a time when too many families are already struggling to live paycheck to paycheck,” Jeffries wrote in a statement.

The transgender lawmaker first garnered controversy after winning a first term in 2024, prompting House Republicans to pass rules for members restricting them to use Capitol restrooms in accordance with their biological sex. Democrats were furious about the proposal by Republican Rep. Nancy Mace (R-NC) but did little apart from issuing angry objections.

“This is a blatant attempt from far right-wing extremists to distract from the fact that they have no real solutions to what Americans are facing,” McBride told Axios after the new restroom rule was adopted.

Manufactured outrage is all the House Democrats have been able to muster in response to Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) victory on Thursday. Passage of the Trump tax cuts came after a grueling series of all-night hearings, culminating in a 6 a.m. vote that narrowly passed despite one GOP lawmaker falling asleep and missing the vote.

The bill trims hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicaid while instituting work requirements for able-bodied recipients. To secure support from fiscal conservatives alarmed by the bill’s addition to the national debt, Johnson promised to implement the Medicaid savings more quickly, alleviating concern that they could be repealed in future years.

At a private meeting with the GOP caucus on Wednesday, Trump allegedly warned fiscal hardliners to back off on their increased demands to cut deeper into a safety net program used by an estimated 72 million Americans.
